Upgrading a Junction with TMP Evo-N Bollards

Upgrading a Problem Junction in Halesowen with TMP Evo-N Bollards

At the junction of Hagley Road and Uffmoor Lane in Halesowen, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council needed a better solution for a site that had been taking repeated impacts.

The original base-lit shell bollards were installed on traffic islands at a T-junction and bend in the road, where they were being struck regularly. Over time, the damage became so severe that the concrete traffic islands were being broken up and pulled from the ground, creating an ongoing maintenance issue.

To address the problem, the junction was upgraded using TMP Evo-N retroreflective self-righting bollards mounted on Rosehill rubber traffic islands.

The result is a clean, well-finished installation that is better suited to a junction where repeated impacts had become a problem.

The Evo N was a strong fit for the scheme for a number of reasons. As a retroreflective self-righting bollard, it is designed to rebound following impact, helping it return to position if struck by a vehicle. That makes it well suited to junctions and traffic islands where occasional contact is difficult to avoid.

It also offers an advantage over the previous base-lit shell bollards by removing the need for electricity on site. Rather than relying on illumination, the Evo-N uses retroreflective materials to deliver excellent visibility both day and night. That means a simpler installation, lower ongoing energy use and a reduced operational carbon impact.

Mounted on a Rosehill rubber traffic island, the finished scheme is tidy, effective and better suited to the conditions at this location. While the previous concrete islands had become damaged through repeated strikes, the new arrangement provides a more durable answer that should help reduce repair call-backs and keep the site looking smarter for longer.

This project is a good example of how the right bollard and traffic island combination can improve the performance of a difficult site while also delivering a neat, professional finish.
